Hip problems and hip pain can have many causes. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis so that the appropriate treatment can be started. Dr. Matthys has learned the most modern techniques used to treat various hip conditions, both surgically and non-surgically. Dr. Matthys is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has trained extensively and fellowship trained by some of the leaders in field. His extensive training has included Harvard University of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA under the tutelage of Dr.'s Dick Scott and Thomas Thornhill and at the Hip and Pelvis Institute in Santa Monica, CA under the tutelage Dr. Joel Matta.

Dr. Matthys is considered a regional leader for both simple and complex problems involving the hip and pelvis. Dr. Matthys has worked with Industry leaders in the development of new surgical techniques and implant design. He is considered one of the nation's most experienced minimally invasive surgeons. With his extensive background he has performed over 2000 Direct Anterior total hip replacements. He has worked as a consultant to assist in teaching hundreds of surgeons the most modern techniques in orthopaedic surgery.
